- co-written by Petty with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics
- inspiration was a romantic encounter that writer/producer David A. Stewart of Eurythmics on the night he met Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac
- Stevie Nicks had broken up with Joe Walsh of the Eagles the night before and when Joe showed up she threw him out saying “Don’t come around here no more”
- According to Nicks, the song was originally written for her album Rock a Little, but she declined it after Petty performed the vocals for her, feeling she could not do the song justice.
- one of only a few Petty tracks to feature female backing vocals (Stephanie Spruill, Marilyn Martin, Sharon Celani) (the last two were from Stevie Nicks’ band)
